Using Camera Controls

Camera controls are used during drop examination to adjust the way your images appear on the screen based on the light source being used.

The camera control panels are found under the Visible Image and Ultraviolet panes. The contents of the camera control panel vary depending on the imaging method you are using. There are two possible main camera control panels, as shown below.

Use the tables below as a guide to help you understand the various controls.

Control Imaging Methods Description
Save

- Visible

- UV

The Save button enables you to save images on your computer. You can change the default directory path for saving images in the Options menu. See Using the Options Menu.

Zoom Tool

- Visible

- UV

The Zoom Tool is how you to zoom in and out an image.  The maximum image magnification level is  400%.

To change zoom settings:

  • Click the Zoom Tool list , and click one of the available zoom options as needed.

    OR

  • Click Custom in the list, type a new zoom value in the Percentage Zoom (%) box, and then click OK.

    OR

  • Click either the Zoom In button or the Zoom Out button to increase or decrease the zoom values.

    OR

  • Click an image displayed either on the Visible Image pane or Ultraviolet Image pane, hover over the image, and scroll down and scroll up using your mouse scroll wheel to increase and decrease the zoom values.

Tip: Click the Show Whole option in the Zoom Tool list to fit images to the screen.

Control Imaging Methods Description

Camera Height (mm)

- UV

The Camera Height controls the height of MUVIS camera during drop examination.

To change the camera height:

  • Click the up and arrow buttons to increase and decrease the values.

    OR

  • Type a new value in the Camera Height (mm) box.

 

To save the camera height setting:

  1. Type a new value in the Camera Height box.

  2. Click the New Profile list next to the coordinate indicator in the status bar.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Type a name of your new settings in the MUVIS dialog box.

  5. Click OK.

 

To load the camera height settings:

  1. Click the list next to the coordinate indicator in the status bar.

  2. Point to Profiles.

  3. Select the desired Camera Height settings.

Tips: Click the Auto Focus button to get the best automatic focus level of a drop when viewing. You can also manually adjust the focus settings with the FOCUS joystick on the MUVIS hardware control panel (see number 8 on the Hardware Overview).

Gain

Amplifies signal strength in low-light conditions, increases pixel sensitivity and makes the image brighter.

To adjust gain:

  • Click the up and down arrows.

    OR

  • Move the slider to the right and left.

    OR

  • Type a new value into the related field and press ENTER on your keyboard.

    OR

  • On the right side of the MUVIS, turn the Gain rotary switch to the right or left.

Note: Increasing the amount of gain can also increase the noise in an image.

Exposure

- Visible

- UV

Controls the exposure during viewing, which determines the amount of light allowed to fall on the camera's sensor affecting the image's brightness.

To adjust exposure:

  • Click the up and down arrows.

    OR

  • Move the slider to the right and left.

    OR

  • Type a new value into the related field and press ENTER on your keyboard.

    OR

  • On the right side of the MUVIS hardware, turn the Exposure rotary switch to the right or left.

Resolution

- UV

Displays the resolution of an image. The resolution of an image is the size of the image in megapixels (MP).

To change the camera resolution:

  • On the right side of the MUVIS hardware, turn the Resolution rotary switch to the right or left.

Illumination

- Visible

Illumination is the brightness level of the illumination source. At 0%, the light is turned off, and at 100% the light is at maximum brightness.

To change the illumination settings:

  • Click the up and down arrows.

    OR

  • Move the slider to the right and left.

    OR

  • Type a new value into the related field and press ENTER on your keyboard.

Use Auto Leveling

- UV

When selected, Auto Leveling automatically adjusts the brightness and contrast of an image. Select the Use Auto Leveling check box to enable it. See also Using the Leveling Histogram.

Note: You can not change the histogram manually when the Use Auto Leveling box is enabled.

Overlay

- Visible

- UV

Overlays the UV image onto the visible image. The overlaid images appears on the Visible Image pane. The Overlay value is displayed as a percentage. The higher the percentage number means the overlay color will be more saturated.

To overlay images:

  • Select the Overlay check box.

  • Click the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the overlay values.

    OR

  • Move the slider to the right or left.

    OR

  • Type a new value into the related field and press ENTER on your keyboard.

Tip: You can change the default overlay color in the Overlay Colorize Options.
